VIII. Algleymi

Í stormi gekk ég sem áður,
barðist gegn óbeislandi öflum
en ég hélt samt ótrauður áfram
jú, endanum var ekki náð.

Það virtist eigi innan seilingar
að ég ætti erindi sem erfiði
og hljóp það með mig í gönur
hve nóttin varð alltaf meiri.

Moldugan veginn tróð ég fast
og reyndi að horfa fram á við,
en skyggnið reyndist sem áður
gjörsamlega til einskis nýtt.

Þá, á krossgötum mætti ég Honum,
þeim sem ég taldi mig best þekkja.
En Hann sem þar stóð gegnt mér
reyndist ekkert vera nema spegilmynd.

Hann fylgdi mér áfram um tíma
yfir torfærar hæðir og hóla,
uns við stóðum loks við lokamarkið:
við dyr hallar Algleymis.

Nú hafði nóttin náð sínu hámarki
og ég stóð á stalli mínum
en eigi í ljóma þeirrar gleði sem ég vænti
heldur berstrípaður og allslaus.


VIII. Oblivion

I walked in a storm like before,
fought untamable forces
but I carried on intrepid
no, the end was not yet reached.

It seemed not within reach
that my oration would meet its effort
and it was getting frustrating
how the night kept increasing.

The gritty path I trampled firmly
and attempted to look ahead,
but the visibility turned out like before
entirely worthless.

Then, on crossroads I struck Him,
the one I believed best to recognize.
But He that there stood against me
proved to be nothing but a reflection.

He lead me on for a while
over heavy hills and lomas,
until we stood at last by the goal:
at the gates of the palace of Oblivion.

Now the night had reached its apex
and I stood on my pedestal
but not in the splendour of the bliss I awaited
but stark stripped down and destitute.
